The Problem: Porsche is recalling some 2011 and 2012 911s, as well as all 2012 Boxsters and Caymans because of an improper fitting in the seat belt anchor. The mounting hole in the body where the seat belt is anchored is too small, which means that the seat belt cannot rotate about the bolt. Because this rotation is what allows passengers to properly adjust their lap belts, it may be more difficult for them to properly adjust their seat belts. In the event of a crash, the belt may not be properly positioned or the bolt may come loose.
The Fix: Porsche will inspect the anchor plate then replace part or all of the seat belt if it’s necessary, all free of charge. Porsche will contact owners of these cars to notify them of the recall.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 235 cars. The affected models are the 2011 911 Speedster and GT3 RS 4.0; all 2012 Boxster and Cayman models (including R, S, and Spyder variants); and the 2012 911, which is limited to the Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera GTS, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Carrera 4 GTS, Targa 4, Targa 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S.
