Audi’s MINI rival is currently available only as a three-door hatch, but this picture confirms that the German brand is working on a more spacious five-door model – and it will aim to tempt buyers away from the British brand’s Clubman.
Likely to be called the A1 Sportback, it shares the same wheelbase as the standard car, but will feature a slightly longer body and – as you can see from our spy shot – a higher roofline. Audi will use the extra length to move the rear seats back for greater legroom. Boot space is also set to increase over the three-door’s 267 litres.
The A1 Sportback is scheduled to launch next February, before Audi begins work on a cabriolet version and a hot S1 model. It’s expect to command a premium of around £500 over the standard A1 – that means prices should start from £14,000. For more details click here.
